Alright y'all, I'm not much of a romantic but I'm rolling with today's theme for Old School Friday, Wedding Songs. I've heard all kinds of songs played at weddings, but my wife and I were married in nontraditional kind of way on the island of Jamaica, so our wedding songs weren't played at the actual wedding. However, we chose several songs for inclusion in our wedding video commemorating the occasion. Different, yeah, but we're going on 11 years so I think we did alright. Here's a few of the choices we made.
But before I forget let me say to my inspiration, my wife of 10+ years; Baby I've loved you from the moment I met you and the feeling is stronger now than it ever has been. This post is for you.
First up is Diana Ross and Lionel Ritchie - Endless Love. A slow, tear jerker that pretty much captured the moment as by beautiful bride walked down the flowered path towards me. This one is a classic that's probably been in more weddings than you can count.
Roberta Flack and Donnie Hathaway - The Closer I Get To You. This one captures both of our feelings as our relationship progressed. Another timeless classic.
Bob Marley - Is This Love. This not a traditional wedding song, but we were in Jamaica y'all. And yes we knew it was love by then, but the song still fit the occasion.
Hope you enjoy, and don't forget to check out the rest of the Old School Friday crews choices.

I think I'm the biggest Lionel Richie fan in the world. The only reason I didn't chose him this time, is because I knew others would play him. Thank you. No other man can write a love song like Lionel [PERIOD].
We got married on a beach, too, so I didn't get to walk to a song.
No not Roberta and Donny, oh, I'm in music heaven here. This is classic.
I listened to Bob Marley, but not as wedding music, but since you got married in Jamaica I understand.
I soooo, love Donny & Roberta together!
Lionel & Diana are so sweet they make my teeth hurt!!
A island wedding sounds like it was a great party!
Happy OSF!
Oh, that Donny and Roberta ALWAYS makes me cry!
Thank You my King you are truly my soul mate
Mrs. Grapevine - Glad you enjoyed the choices. I'm running late today to everybody's sites, so I haven't seen all the Lionel Ritchie songs out there yet. I've been a fan since he was with the Commodores (the first "real" concert I went to). and about that Bob Marley, the hotel staff had a little influence on that one too. BTW, where did you get married at?
Regina, sounds like I hit on a couple of your favorites too. And yes, the island wedding was a blast. Looking back I wouldn't want to do it any other way. One of these days I'll get around to posting some of the pics.
Ms. Marvalus - Please don't cry! That is a very emotional song though, so if you do, I understand. Thanks for coming through.
I got married in Cozumel,Mexico before going to Belize.
Dang... you put your foot in this one.. Donnie, Roberta, Lionel Richie... Wooh! I need to go get a cold drink. LMAO
Mrs. Grapevine, we were married in Ocho Rios, Jamaica at Couples Resort and honeymooned there afterwards.
ShaƩ-ShaƩ, Thanks, lol. Can I get you some ice?
Aww, what you said to your wife made me misty. Black love is truly beautiful. I too want to have an island wedding. I can't see doing it any other way.
The Closer I Get To You...mmmmm...LOVE IT. Not too many duets can touch it. I also have some Donny on my list. "A Song For You."
I love the inclusion of the Bob Marley. Fits in with the Jamaican theme! Besides, reggae is sexy.
Vivrant Thang, thanks for your comments! I have to let my wife know every now and again that she still does it for me!
And I'm a big reggae fan. That music just does it for me as you've probably noticed from some of our previous Musical Interludes.
Hope you come back soon.
